Stamford Police Foundation - Program Building Upon Trust and Strength

The Stamford Police Foundation serves as a vital bridge between the Stamford Police Department’s needs and community resources. When the Department identifies essential requirements, our Foundation mobilizes community support to fulfill these critical needs.

Every year proves to be productive, with numerous successful initiatives completed through our collaborative approach. These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our entirely volunteer board of directors and the generosity of our donors—ensuring that 100% of all contributions directly support the programs and equipment that enhance public safety in our community.

We are deeply grateful for the continued support of our contributors whose generosity makes our mission possible and creates meaningful impact throughout Stamford.

Crime Stoppers Program: Community Partnership in Action

The Stamford Crime Stoppers program represents a vital partnership between law enforcement, the media, and the community, designed to combat crime through anonymous reporting. This initiative provides citizens with a secure channel to share critical information about criminal activity without fear of identification or reprisal. When community members call the dedicated tip line, they receive a unique identification number—never their name—ensuring complete anonymity throughout the process. Tips leading to arrests or the recovery of stolen property or illegal weapons qualify for cash rewards, creating a powerful incentive for community involvement in public safety.

The effectiveness of the Crime Stoppers program is demonstrated through remarkable cost efficiency and measurable results. In Stamford alone, the program has facilitated the removal of over 120 illegal firearms and 118 arrests from city streets since the program’s inception —all with total reward payouts of less than $100,000. This represents an extraordinary public safety return on investment. The program’s success stems from its unique ability to overcome the reluctance many citizens feel about coming forward with information. By guaranteeing anonymity and offering modest financial incentives, Crime Stoppers taps into community knowledge that might otherwise remain inaccessible to law enforcement. The Stamford Police Foundation’s funding of these reward payments demonstrates how relatively small financial investments can yield significant public safety outcomes, preventing future crimes and creating safer neighborhoods for all residents.
